A large part of Johannesburg's commuter population is dependent on minibus taxis for daily transport between their homes in the townships and their places of work in the inner city and its affluent suburbs. The development forms part of an ambitious urban renewal programme of a sector of the inner city, which over the past twenty years has slowly degenerated into urban wasteland.
