These buildings are driven by a concern with architecture as public responsibility, and raise the question of what a responsible and appropriate role for the architect in the city should be. The building brief is modest yet possesses all the qualities that one would normally associate with city building. These buildings represent in their strategy the capacity that architecture has to make meaningful city spaces. The buildings are simple, elegant and frame external spaces in a deceptively simple manner. At the same time they offer rich possibilities for the engagement of people.
