The spatial logic of apartheid created a large class of poor commuters, having to travel long distances on a daily basis to the periphery of South Africa's cities. Given how basic the commuter experience is to most South Africans, it is surprising that so little design attention and so few resources have been devoted to the provision of spaces and facilities for commuters.
