House 19 Fisherman's Bend

This formally arranged and generous house hugs the steep rocky slopes above the cold Atlantic Ocean, presenting two faces to the world. Reduced to a few cubic forms framing the distant beach view, the street face is solid and mute. The sea-facing façade of wide, connecting decks under large overhangs provides intimate spaces to take in the grandeur of the vista. This house is conceived as a response to the specific environment of Llandudno, and embraces the generous South African lifestyle. The house merges with the site in colour and material, and begins to appear as though it belonged there.
