Hector Pieterson Memorial Museum
Soweto, Gauteng, South Africa - Mashebane Rose Architects
12-year-old Hector Pieterson was the first of hundreds of students killed by the police in the Soweto student uprising against Bantu education in 1976. The Soweto uprisings marked a turning point in local resistance to the seemingly invincible power of the Apartheid state, as the youth took leadership of the resistance over from their more conservative parents.
