Constitutional Court
Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa - OMM Design Workshop and Urban Solutions
Freedom, democracy, equal opportunity, diversity, responsibility, reconciliation and respect: these ideals form the foundation of the new South African Constitution. The new building of the Constitutional Court sets out to convey these values. It has been constructed on a site chosen for its intense symbolism: the Old Fort prison in central Johannesburg, a place of captivity and suffering. The Constitutional Court building embodies the victory of idealism and human rights over cruelty and despair, and reflects the openness and transparency called for in the Constitution of South Africa.
